Things Neil Gaiman Said

Neil Gaiman (1960 - ), English author of short fiction, novels, graphic novels, audio theatre and screenplays.

Neil Gaiman was able to read at the age of four: "I was a reader. I loved reading. Reading things gave me pleasure."

While waiting for a train at Victoria Station in 1984, Gaiman read a copy of The Swamp Thing, a comic book written by Alan Moore, and was struck by his fresh and vigorous approach to story-telling in graphic form. His graphic novels, The Sandman, first appeared in December 1988.

Gaiman's first novel was Good Omens, a collaboration with Terry Pratchett. American Gods is his multi-award winning best seller.

It has been said that much of Gaiman's work incorporates the monomyth approach to narrative, which may account for the lasting impression it has on the reader's sub-conscious mind as a link to the most ancient of tales.

Kerry~ I enjoyed this informative post on Neil Gaiman. His thoughts are universal, yet personal. I think that's what keeps his poetry alive.

I do love Neil Gaimon's work - American Gods is fantastic and I look forward to reading Anansi Boys. This was a nice snapshot into an interesting man.

huge grin. gaiman is such a favourite. what i love the most about him (aside from every word he's ever written) is his willingness to be lighthearted about his work. the same deeply stirring and highly incisive mind that wrote american gods also wrote a dr. who episode, and some of the craziest short stories i've ever read. he is able to not be caught up in the idea of being a 'serious writer' and that everything that comes off his printer has to be some combination of carl jung and john donne. ... i struggle with that.
he's a real (and really funny) guy who also occasionally writes mad books that tear the skin off humanity. ... amazing.
thanks for putting the spotlight on the truly shining ones, kerry.

great post Kerry! with interesting notes on Gaiman - I must admit I'm not a fan, I've read two of his books and neither of them interested me much, but then I dislike most fantasy-esque books anyways! I like the the little excerpts here though!

I just think he is a creative genius, who gets things done. I envy and admire that in equal measure.
I found him through movies like Mirrormask - what a surreal and mind-blowing vision! It took me a few books to become a die-hard fan - then I read American Gods, and reached that apex of satisfaction with the man as author - it's a masterpiece.

I must admit, the only book I've read by Neil Gaiman is Coraline. I'm so glad I came across this though because the snippets of quotes were wonderful!
