In The Garden ~ Childe Hassam Public Domain |
These days, it seems one cannot open a newspaper without reading of catastrophic natural disasters, mad gunmen or tragic human drama. As I set up this post (on Sunday morning), I am thinking about our former president, Nelson Mandela, who was rushed to hospital last night with failing health. I am in desperate need of good news, and Monday seems a good place to start afresh, with a positive outlook. Thus, I encourage a celebration of poetry here at Real Toads. Let us spend a happy day together in a creative environment, where reading, learning and growing are our prime motives in sharing a poem with friends and new-comers alike.
Mr. Mandela has been a hero to the world, a great man who will always be remembered.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could offer you good news, but my poem for Open Link Monday isn't very cheerful.
Thinking of you, and of all South Africans.

Kerry, I hope you don't mind that I posted a slightly used poem, originally written for the napowrimo challenge in April.
ReplyDeleteIn the early 1980's I remember the huge demonstrations at UC Berkeley, protesting apartheid. A different world...

ReplyDeleteThank you again for hosting Monday Toads. It is a very nice place to exchange our writing.
ReplyDeleteI think the whole world is pulling for Nelson Mandela. Certainly all I know are. He is sooo respected, very much like our Martin Luther King Jr. was, world wide.

Good thoughts Mama Zen - there is so much avoidable bad in the world. Like your choice of painting and I thought at first it was a Rembrandt.
ReplyDeleteKerry, Nelson Mandela is revered worldwide, and good thoughts are surrounding him.
ReplyDeleteThanks for IGRT. Even though I can't participate regularly (life, you know...), I do come as frequently as I can. This is a wonderful respite amidst the chaos and busy-ness of life.
I agree to fill the air with positive Light. For Mandela, for us all.
ReplyDeleteGood morning!! Happy day in the garden to all!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Toads! Looking forward to all of your creativity--so time to hop to it.
ReplyDeleteoh no, sending so much love to you, Kerry. impossible to express in words the depth of respect for Mr. Mandela, and the inspiration. unprecedented! you and the people of South Africa will be in our hearts :)
ReplyDeleteNot quite the cheery contribution Kerry is hoping for tday. Can't quite muster optimism today.
ReplyDelete@Marian: I loved your vintage summer scene on the bridge.
Mine is not full of sweetness and light either - it is my long-overdue 'Howl'in recognition of Allen Ginsberg's birthday a week ago!
ReplyDeleteThanks for offering this beautiful garden to share!
ReplyDelete@ Power of a Kiss, Please note that this is a poetry site, not a photography site. If your post includes both you are welcome to share.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone..I am late to greet you. Insomnia has taken its toll and I am more zombie than human. Hope everyone has a great week!!
ReplyDeleteHoping Nelson Mandela makes a swift recovery! We need heroes desperately!
ReplyDeletePosted an oldie this time - one of my personal favorites. Will be back later tonight to visit and comment.
Sending healing energy to Nelson Mandela. Love that you chose for us to share uplifting words. Of course I misunderstood and wrote something new but hope it brings a smile.
ReplyDeleteThe photo you chose for today's message is quite beautiful. It made my mind wander, escaping the world for a bit.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're able to wander your own gardens, filling with positive thoughts and recharging.
I started and will finish commenting in the morning!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, all! How about a little humour, originally written for Khara House's 30x30 Challenge. Hope to see you over at http://miskmask.wordpress.com/2013/06/08/gagging-with-courage/
