Out of Standard with Izy

Greetings Garden Dwellers!

One Wednesday of each month I  set before you a challenge to defy the conventions of a particular theme.  I will call upon you to write out of the standard and find new places in the everyday, but there is a twist: in order to complete each challenge, you will also be asked to share something about yourself with the IGWRT community.  Let’s move onward to July’s challenge...

FRANKLY, MY DEAR, I DON’T GIVEA DAMN

In America, summer is the season of movies.  Great big action block busters as filling as  a small popcorn.  And while summer movie spectacles are fun (and yes bloated with CGI effects and explosions), this month’s challenge will focus more on substance.

The Challenge:
Share with us your favorite line of movie dialogue and then embed it into a poem which is not related to that movie or the character who spoke it in anyway.  Reinvent your standard for excellence.  Bring us the unexpected.

KEEP IN MIND

This is not about picking a great movie line or the one you think will make a great poem.  It’s about sharing the one you hold dear and transforming it into something of your own.

Also, like every challenge, your poem must by newly written for this challenge and not one which you have previously written which conveniently fits the theme.

Go now, my toads, and bring me back something startling, shiny, and new.

Viva la

  1. Very clever prompt Izy and it will be fun to see what people choose as favorite lives of movie dialogue. I think I will be hard pressed to remember ANY line of movie dialogue let alone a favorite. But I will think hard on it!!

  2. Oh.. so many great lines immediately spring to mind. Unfortunately I have the dread parent-teacher evening tonight, so I may only be able to write to this prompt later in the week.
Thanks, Izy, for always keeping the standard of out of standard high.

  5. A great challenge, as always. I haven't watched a current film in so long, Izy, that this one will send me diving into the past if I am able to do it. (I never know of late what the cauldron holds, if anything, but will see how it goes.)

  6. None spring to mind except a bit of song lyric from South Pacific, so that will show you how much I know about movies, but I'm going to try to come up with something by delving deeply into a brain rotted by pain and age, or vice versa.
Then I might come up with some nice versa.

  7. Wow I actually thought of a movie line and got it in a poem. I am not sure which movie 'I'll be back" is from but I do remember it.

  8. I love the challenge! It's been a little hard to stay focused around my house, but I seemed to be able to pull something out of my poetic hat.

  11. I have to confess that this isn't my favorite line, but it's close, and it's the only one I could shoehorn into something resembling a poem.

  12. It is 10:15p.m. & just got back from the barn not long ago... Had three horses to care for IN THIS HEAT. Exhausted - but I hope to post later on this week, if not next Monday. I have a movie line I say all the time, drives my family crazy :) Thanks for the prompt and your time organizing it.

  15. Hmm. SO many lines to favor. "We'll always have Paris," though, has recently gained meaning in my life because I visited and because it's a line in a performance piece I did long ago and is now in my novel-in-progress...(I cut some of my blather here). Happy Day!

  16. Hey Izzy, so sorry that I am late to this party, but found this a very fun exercise (though my poem kind of grim.) But great to think of movie lines. It is so hard to come up with interesting challenges! Thank you.
