As I (try) to type this, I am surrounded by fifth grade girls. The house is filled with shrieks and giggles. Music pounds and thumps like my monthly migraine. And a question echos through the air on an endless loop until it is an itch and burn in my brain . . .
Help! Please, put me out of my misery. Take 43 words (or less) and tell me . . . what does the fox say?
I have referenced a Russian folk tale I am particularly partial to: the Fox Confessor. However, I went a "tidge" over the limit. Mine is 59 words, but I couldn't find a way to shorten it without ruining the poem. So, if my entry offends thee, pluck it out.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though I've been waiting for this prompt--though not the 43-word version. (Where do these numbers come from?) I looked to Aesop's "The Fox and the Crow" and late night humor. Enjoy. I did.

ReplyDeleteA great prompt from Mama Zen and I had Aesop's 'The Fox and the Grapes' in mind....
My poem started at 55 words (nearly gave it to G-Man instead) but I took out my pruning shears. Don't know if it is a successful as the unedited version but screw it - it's 'a pome'.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had not heard this song before - it sounds like the kind of music my grandson composes and I love it! Great prompt, MZ!
ReplyDeleteRacka dacka, lacka sacka ... Certain you get my message! ... it has a great beat?
ReplyDeletethen there's this version from SNL ~
ReplyDeletetotally absurd, heh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the song inspiration! Interesting legend behind the fox image...
ReplyDeleteMy kids play this song! Oh, my...lol
ReplyDeleteI will be back to see what tale I can tell~ MZ hang in there it gets better than worse-they learn to drive!
I don't know what the fox say, but lolamouse say "Enuff of that song!!!"
ReplyDeleteI never heard the song before, but it is sort of weirdly catchy. I love the challenge even though I broke the rules by five words..:)
ReplyDeletei came in at 42 words and a much better song. {smile}

MZ - I found this very intriguing and have been working on a poem that I haven't had time to finish - and it may end up over the word count so will possibly try for 55 (or not.) Anyway, it is all an interesting idea --and I hope the sleepover got over well. K. Manicddaily
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read all of the entries. I had to take a mini blog break to, um, get older, but I'll be around soon!
