Open Link Monday

Welcome to the Imaginary Garden ...

Original Source Unknown

“Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold.”
― Zelda Fitzgerald

Good morning, afternoon, evening to all poets who join us here during the hours of Monday as they stretch out all over the globe. As it is the last Monday in May, our friends in the United States are celebrating Memorial Day. I take this as a good opportunity for all citizens of the world to pause and remember those men and women who have lost their lives in war zones, past and present. Open Link Monday has no specific theme, but you are welcome to share your thoughts and/or poems written specifically with this day in mind. Alternatively, please link up a poem of your choice and enjoy some time spent in the garden.

Good week to all. In the US, it's Memorial Day - and despite any political chicanery, I give thanks for the service rendered by veterans. ~

Memorial Day greetings to all -- I would have preferred to post a kinder, shorter poem today, but the war dead are owed their due and I have a poem for that duty. To all who have lost loved ones to war, the peace of remembrance to you today.

This poem is from last year. I read it at an open mic yesterday and want to read it here again. Thanks for being here, Kerry and toads.

Hi Kerry ~~ I may not write today but entered yesterday's "Dirt Farmer (my dad)" again for today.
Thank you for the reminder of today being the U.S. Memorial Day (it is also a Bank Holiday here in the U.K.). I served in the U.S. Army, always ready but never had to do any type of combat service. Still was was five (5) years out of my young life of early marriage.

I though this old post might help minds recover from the traumas of war, by highlighting different thought processes...

Brendan, I have deleted your faulty link.

Good idea to make us sit down and write a memorial poem: that brings is home more strongly than reading one.

Ok. I posted the wrong link, but I'm not being able to fix it. So, here is my contribution: http://writingsbycharleen.blogspot.com/2014/05/memorial-day.html

Linked a sonnet with slanted rhymes I wrote for the Mag.. it's hard to say happy Monday from a Europe where Nazis are making it into the parliament...

Charleen, I fixed your link. This is the correct one I believe.

Hey Kerry--this is a rather odd one--at the end of a long weekend. (Lovely.) (So very happy to be home though I am off to the City tomorrow am very early.) K.

I spent the last two years working on several huge projects, leaving little time for anything else. I'm now attempting to get back into blogging. I'm beginning with some art, photo, and writing prompts to jumpstart my creative juices. I just posted my first submission to Open Link Monday. I don't consider myself a poet (I write mostly fiction and personal essays) but I took a stab at a short Memorial Day poem.
