As friends in northern hemisphere are entering the colder, darker months of autumn and winter, friends in the southern hemisphere are heading toward the hot summer months. That is why today’s challenge will focus on the heat that sustains us in the winter and that we celebrate in the summer. Only......there is a catch.
FIRE FROM A DIFFERENT SUN
The challenge - write a poem about a fire that doesn’t come from flames or the sun. Bonus points awarded for those who are able to avoid using the words “fire” “flames” or any fiery imagery.
KEEP IN MIND
Like every challenge, your poem must by newly written for this challenge and not one which you have previously written which conveniently fits the theme.
So go now, my muddy buddies, and bring us back something shiny and new...
I'm first. That's a rare sighting. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThings are brewing here, turn up the fire for more heat!! I liked the prompt, right away I thought of 'Spontaneous Combustion', where a human bursts into flames for no apparent reason. Common in 18th and 19th Century literature.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the bad link on the first Mr. Linky entry. It seemed to work when I posted it, but must have been a fluke. I wrote and posted this at the Gymnasium where we had taken our granddaughter, KP, for her after school second education. She is getting pretty good. Soccer practice tomorrow, game Saturday. I feel like I'm a "Soccer Mom."
After coming home, bedtime snacks and getting KP into bed and asleep I added the picture and gave credit to my son, Tim, for the picture.
..
I thought this was going to be tricky at first, as I am trying to stick to 'micro' poetry for a couple of months, while I complete an online course. But all I had to do was look out of the window and I knew what to write!
ReplyDeleteGreat one... this one took me in a direction I had not thought of... love to avoid those fire words.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, Izy. You always make us think outside the box.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I really answered the prompt, but I'm up.
ReplyDeleteIt occurs to me, I could also have written about North Korea's messing with another kind of fire. But I wrote about Standing Rock, and a peoples' inner fire.
ReplyDeleteMy 8 year old came home from school with a fever today and I've been nursing him. Got the call from school right when I was sitting down to catch up on poetry here - hoping to get up early in the quiet of Saturday morning and visit here and be productive. Great prompt!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this prompt and knew immediately where I would go with it. I'm looking forward to reading others' contributions.
ReplyDeleteA strange fire? okay then. I've got something like that.
ReplyDeleteOne good thing about this open linky, posting even though the prompt baton has been passed
ReplyDeleteA good weekend
much love...
This was a nice challenge! Just happened upon your blog through georgeplacepoetry.
ReplyDeleteI cooked up a little haiku for this challenge. :)
