Today we have reached the end of madhousing and voicing, today some of you should be proud overachievers who have written a poem every day in April.
I have the honor of closing the door and handing out the awards. Today it’s time to talk verbs.
Verbs turn the wheels and are so much more interesting than other word classes.
Alas the world of words is filling up with things, we have warehouses filling up with objects. Innate things and passive they sit there, waiting for way to few verbs to put them in action.
But there is a solution called verbing. The word verb is a noun, but verbing a noun turns noun into a verb. You can do the same with almost any noun… just try it.
How do you elevator, firework or butterfly? Or can you say butterflew if it’s over?
Verbing is a great tool for imagery and metaphors too. If we firework is it from rage or in orgasm?
Use your poetic license decide for yourself and play. Take some nouns and use them as verbs and put them into a poem. Unlock all the objects, let them dance, let them swirl.
Let us party.
This does end off poetry writing month with a firework show. Wow! Great challenge.
ReplyDeleteJust so I'm clear about the parameters, you wish us to create verbs from nouns?
So no whimpers, just bangs, sparkles and streamers!
ReplyDeleteI like this prompt. I'll firework you a poem, bird you a verb.
ReplyDeleteI think you must mean, "verbing a noun turns noun into verb. You can do the same with almost any noun…" And what fun it sounds! I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist the dead bee on my windowsill - so I whimpered instead of banging!
ReplyDelete@Kerry Yes turn noun that works into verb... some works great others don't work... But it's a fun way to create new meaning to words.
ReplyDelete@Rosemary of course I meant that... will change
Happy last day of April, everyone!❤️ Congratulations to all those who made it through this month. We did it!!ππ
ReplyDeletethanks for the fun, Bjorn. have a great week, and congrats to those who slogged this month ~
ReplyDeleteOne last final effort fingering and thumbing keys. Maybe a little nosing and tonguing the sticky ones along. When NaPoWriMoing so many clicks for late night snacks my one final effort to the Web then it's done for another year But the tomorrow is Platforming again my be and is and was along again.
ReplyDelete..
Giving myself a pat on the back 30 poems in April 2018
ReplyDeletehave a good April 30th all
much love...
I like what I've read so far.
ReplyDeleteA small tip that I did not add is to use the verbing to include precise nouns that adds more than just replacing a well functioning verb with a verbed noun... I have found that complex nouns often work better than simple ones (where often a good verb already exists)...
Happy verbing all.
Well done everyone. I have broken and intermittent internet for the last day and my van broke down too...woop de doo...I will find a way to post my poem number 30.
ReplyDeleteYay, we did it! Congratulations, all! It's been a great month, here with the toads. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm not quite sure a got it 100% right, Bjorn, but the exercise allowed me to focus on a poem that had to be written today.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all who stepped out of their comfort zone to write a poem every day this month. I have lost count of how many I wrote in total - some being in parts - but I had a most wonderful time. This has surely been an April to remember.
Congrats to everyone who ran this marathon! Something light for today.
ReplyDeleteGot a brief internet window. Posted up my poem. When all is back to normal here I'll catch up with comments.
ReplyDeleteMy poem seems to have disappeared, so I'll link up again!
ReplyDeleteOn Prompt for my #30 of 30 Days!!! Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteThis one was hard but fun for me. I knew what I wanted to say but getting a new verb halfway related was somewhat tough. I'm a ways away on some.
..
thanks Bjorn for hosting this great word/exercise prompt - to verb - ahahaha - it can easily become overkill! so some effort and skilling to containing it for the keep ....
ReplyDeletethese little gem ideas are great sparks - I love this kind of weird outside the box thought prompts from time to time -
so thanks for a wonderful ending to this grand slam 30/30 finale.
And to ALL the wonderful hostesses and hosts this month?
thanks for the prompts, the memories, the sparks, the word bursts, and the support, encouragement and fun - everyone did an amazing job in this mad rally.
And to everyonewho played for as much as they could or would?
How amazing to run this crazy legged marathon, make new friends, meet new people, cross countries and lands, border new languages and just rally to support and encourage. It's been a road poeming trip.
See y'all on the flip side now and later.
