Revelation
I was introduced to Troye Sivan from the movie Boy Erased. He plays a minor but important character in the film, and this song--his song--soars during a beautiful scene. Just watching this video makes me weepy.
“Revelation” has been nominated for a Golden Globe award, and Lucas Hedges for best actor Golden Globe for his role in Boy Erased. (I predict Oscars as well, and rightly so.)
Troye Sivan is a major singer, songwriter, performer, and YouTube star from Australia. He is so wonderful, I’m looking forward to hearing from him and watching his career over time.
Please feel free to write on the specific topic addressed in this video, but it is certainly not required. As you like, write more generally about revelation, liberation, coming out, freedom, love, youth, whatever--the prompt is wide-open as always. This is a song to sit back and breathe in--and see what comes up for you.
WATCH * LISTEN * BE INSPIRED * WRITE
What a beautiful song!
ReplyDeleteHowever, the statistics at the end of the clip are nauseating to me.. this conservative tyranny of other people's right to be just makes me wonder at the direction that humanity is taking.. not forward, but circling the drain.
Yes, Kerry, yes--exactly.
ReplyDeleteNot sure why Mr. Linky is so huge! Yikes.
^^ Never mind, fixed it! Have a wonderful day, friends. xo
ReplyDeleteGuess I've lived a sheltered life. I wouldn't come out if that meant I had to change, because the lifestyle isn't my sort. I have some gay friends and have a friend whose son lived that way. It's a cold world that way. The son died of aids. Live and let live was his parents take. Even after the son died of aids. I'm Southern Baptist, we don't have conversion camps or even try to have anyone change. I've heard of neo-ultra-right groups that are said to have them. And I'm not sure my plumbing matches me, if I have a choice in reincarnation which I don't think happens I'd like to be a girl, one treated nice.
ReplyDeleteBottom line, I doubt if I'll see the movie. Whatever, I'm not unhappy.
..
I believe this movie is one to make one THINK. How we treat others, how we view ourselves! My son knows Lucas Hedges and his family - an absolutely talented young man and I met him once and he is as polite and smart as can be. I hope my poem is understood - the "sinner" is NOT the child... but the adult (or parent or person) trying to do the"saving".

ReplyDeleteThank you for the prompt Marian. I didn't see the movie and I didn't listen to the song. But being a part of the gay/lesbian community for 50+ years, I didn't feel I needed to.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try to write for this. of course.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marian, for this prompt! I am touched by the song.
ReplyDeleteWrote something simple with familiar images as a kind of a prayer. Looking forward to reading everyone's take on this beautiful music. :-)
I will have to try to write to this... the music was perfect, and I heard Jonsi playing too...
ReplyDelete^^ Yes, Jonsi!
ReplyDeleteGlad you all were inspired by this, lovely song and lovely poems all.
It looks like an important and moving poem. I cant fathom why humans make life so difficult for other humans - and every living thing. Thanks for this prompt, Marian. I will ponder it as i drive the peninsula today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of your interesting prompts this year. Enjoy the holiday season...Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year !
ReplyDeleteA subject near and dear to my heart! Thanks for the prompt!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this prompt. I know so many who have faced this. I felt I needed to go strong with what I wrote.
ReplyDeleteA moving movie, is what I meant. Sigh. My brain is full of mothballs these days - am in hibernation. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteHaha Sherry, well the video with the lyrics on there reads like a poem or incantation to me!
ReplyDeleteLove everyone's take on this. Thank you all for playing. Love.
