Get Listed: January Edition

And it yellow’d the strings of thy tangled hair,
                That shook in the wind of night.
The moon made thy lips pale, beloved;
         The wind made thy bosom chill;
                The night did shed
                On thy dear head
Its frozen dew, and thou didst lie
Where the bitter breath of the naked sky
                Might visit thee at will.
-from Lines: The Cold Earth Slept Below by Percy Bysshe Shelley

Greetings Poets, wayfarers and friends. As January sets in, I am reminded of Shelley whose poetry reflects passion, beauty, imagination, love, creativity, political liberty and nature.

New year calls for new beginnings, new rules and new traditions. For this "Get Listed" edition I want you guys to choose any 3 words that fit best with the mood/theme/personality of your poem on a topic of your choice. For those who would like an added (optional) challenge feel free to throw in a word or two of your own and be sure to mention it somewhere in your post.

  • carnation                slightly               percussion               balcony                January
  • deep                        toss                       heat                       snow                       wind
  • gravel                    morning                 city                       obvious                   pensive
  • bedside                  bread                    clouds                     ache                       poems

  11. thanks for hosting Sanaa :) and a most happy new year!

    I've got a question for you, born of curiosity - could you explain what "Get Listed" is about? I've written to it only a few times, and today, struggled for all hell for inspiration, but generally, apart from asking us to use word sets etc. is there anything specific to this prompt? (by this, I mean a basic foundation or premise that despite the changing word lists and whatever fascinating poems you offer for inspiration, is what distinguishes this say, from calling this a wordle? or some such.) [I fear I'm not explaining myself well or clearly, - I'm worded out.] Anyhow, I guess I'm just wondering if I'm getting the gist of this prompt.

    Right then, thanks for the poem and list and the fun to be had. :)

  12. @Wildchild; A most intriguing and soul-stirring question 😊 Actually, I have only just begun hosting this phenomenal idea/label/poetic-inspiration/prompt and it's going to be a year now in April. Get Listed goes way back .. back when I wasn't even around.. back when I was a university student who had no idea she would be a Poet one day. This prompt has been hosted by several people over the years and I m sure they each have attached meaning to it apart from the original idea.

    To me, Get Listed means writing the best poem of the month!💞 As the prompt appears after every three months 😊 I strive to offer variety of words keeping in mind that every person will respond differently and would prefer light/dark/serious/playful/romantic/solemn theme and subject matter.

    To me the prompt is an opportunity to bring out the best in everyone. 💞☕

  15. Sanaa thanks for explaining a bit more about this prompt - it has helped me to wrap my brain around it better. LOL - I think I'm getting the idea more - and yes, that's just it, these types of prompts that are "specific" but still broad for parameters does mean coming up with a range of possibilities that have greater appeal for everyone. So well done - it makes more sense to me now. And thanks again for hosting.

    And well, isn't that the miracle of life - you can never be sure where you'll end up? Start off in one place, and whether by fate, fortune, luck and/or choices, we end up doing something so far removed from anything we thought we might ever do. So, then, a Poet you have become 😃 - one of the many hats you wear. And it's all part of the wonder of surprises in life, which makes it so interesting. Cheers!
