For this weekend's art collaboration, I am introducing David Bülow, Danish architect and imaginer in ink. David has kindly given permission for us to use his amazing piece,
The Turning Point, for our poetic inspiration.

Feel free to pay a visit to @bulow_ink on Instagram or the Bulow Ink website where more of his amazing pieces are to be viewed, but not used for this prompt.
If you post your poem on Instagram, using David's image, please tag @bulow_ink and mention him as the collaborative artist in your post.
There are no restrictions placed on this challenge: Let the image speak to you and respond in a poetic or prose form of your choosing: Literal! Figurative! Reflective! Narrative! Symbolic!
As an alternative, you may write a Flash 55 inspired by the photograph, or on a subject of your choice, as we keep the memory of Galen alive, and send our love and support to Hedgewitch, during her time off from hosting.
Thank you for this prompt Kerry. It took me to a dark place, remembering pictures of prisoners being liberated from concentration camps and a tale shared by a priest who was liberated.
ReplyDeleteGreetings to all. I am very excited to have this opportunity to share David's art. I am so looking forward to the poetic responses it evokes.
ReplyDeleteGood evening Toads. Thank you for this unusual image, Kerry, and for introducing us to David and his artwork.
ReplyDeleteHi Toni. This link leads to your tribute to Rachel Sutcliffe. I will remove it so you can add the correct link.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Toni. I inserted the correct link for you.
ReplyDeleteKerry, I really like David's work. I'm saving the drawing for later--I think it deserves a short story... I went with a fun flash 55 that left me feeling all spring(y) and stuff. 😁
ReplyDeleteHappy readings, everyone!
I'm glad you like David's work. I'm a huge fan. I loved the image you chose to work from a whole lot too.
ReplyDeleteI think I could see a story in the picture, but I opted for something more symbolic tonight.
ReplyDeleteLoved the art challenge, Kerry!❤️ I'll be back tomorrow to read the new entries. Goodnight everyone.
ReplyDeleteAlcohol ink painting is the thing now. A step forward from watercolor. Is this one done with shades of black and blue? I stopped at our local Hobby Lobby store was sold out of ink and Hoe To books for the art. Some want to all it, a craft. This o e has a lot of detail which needs talent in the making.
ReplyDelete..
The first poem that came to mind was Tomas Tranströmer "After a death"...
ReplyDeleteOnce there was a shock
that left behind a long, shimmering comet tail.
It keeps us inside. It makes the TV pictures snowy.
It settles in cold drops on the telephone wires.
One can still go slowly on skis in the winter sun
through brush where a few leaves hang on.
They resemble pages torn from old telephone directories.
Names swallowed by the cold.
It is still beautiful to hear the heart beat
but often the shadow seems more real than the body.
The samurai looks insignificant
beside his armor of black dragon scales.
(translated by Robert Bly)
Wow! This poem is exceptionally good, Bjorn, and so in keeping with the artwork. Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kerry for introducing us to a new artist!
ReplyDeleteMine is both, 55 and for the image.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great image to use for prompt. It's full of emotion and possibility.
