Hello Poets and Poetry Lovers! Maybe I just really enjoyed reading Nos4a2 by Joe Hill earlier this summer (or maybe I'm trying to get over my disappointment about the way the TV series differs from the book), but my mind has been on covered bridges lately. I'm lucky to live in Bucks County PA where we have no shortage of them. I think I may have to take a road trip, just like the gentleman in this ad video did, so I can see some of them for myself. The haunted one especially intrigues me.
For today's Tuesday platform I invite you to riff off of any of the ideas found in this video--bridges, rivers, history, classic cars--and create a poem. Of course, it's open mic here on Tuesdays, so feel free to travel wherever your muse leads you. Also, do the neighborly thing and show your fellow poets a little love by visiting their lily pads.
Hello all.. back from my vacation and eager to get into poetring... hope you are all well.
ReplyDeleteLast night we went to sleep in our chairs, after midnight we woke up. I finished my night chores and locked the house, but we couldn't sleep. From the side of the bed I've written fourteen lines and now I'm sleepy again. Nice introduction here, I've had several old cars, real and cast iron scale models. I used to take the cars and my scooter riding through those pretty old New England bridges.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rommy.
..
@brudberg - I hope it was a good vacation
ReplyDelete@ Jim - New England does have some pretty roads
Covered bridges take me back to the romance of The Bridges of Madison County. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteSad to see the Tuesday Platform leave. It was the only opportunity on IGWRT for independent personal poetic expression. I think if it is brought back, the one governing caveat should probably be that the poem not be one that was written for some regimented prompt, on either IGWRT, or any other prompt site. It would be far more interesting were it a wholly independent, “unguided”, unrestricted expression of the poet’s pure soul. IMHO
ReplyDeleteI am still - annoyingly - having half my comments vanish when i hit publish. I am commenting on all sites , as i always do, so if you dont hear from me please check your spam folders. That seems to be where they're going, even on sites i have been visiting for years. Always wordpress and those using Akismet for security. Sigh.
ReplyDelete@Sherry - I haven't read that one yet
ReplyDelete@Rob - I'm so sorry I haven't been clearer. When I say it's open mic, that means *any* poem is OK here, whether it fits the prompt or not. The Tuesday prompt I offer is only meant to be a suggestion if people are stuck but still want to play along. That's the way it's been for all Tuesday prompts here too, not just mine. Also, I think it will be up to other sites to provide open forums from here on in. There's one on Sunday at Poets United.
@Sherry - Ugh, that sounds frustrating. I' glad you were able to comment on mine though.
That’s ironic Sherry. I have exactly the same issue, but in reverse. I never have problems with WordPress sites. It is always the Blogger sites that disappear my comments. It would seem that WordPress and Blogger have somehow made their sites incompatible, perhaps trying to establish dominance? Sadly they don’t seem to give a shit about their users... :-(
ReplyDeletedVerse Poets Pub offers open mic night every other week as well.
DeleteEvening, Garden Dwellers! Thanks, Rommy, for hosting the platform this week. Sorry to hear about your commenting troubles, Sherry! I'll check my blog's spam folder to see if any ended up there.
ReplyDeletehello, I am new and just reading right now, but have a quick question. Do these prompts expire? Thanks!
