Let It Go

I can’t hold it back any more!

This is where I’ve been living for the past months. Not that I’m complaining; there are far worse songs to get stuck in your head, and far worse movie fare for kids coming out of Hollywood. My kids stayed up with me watching the Oscars, waiting for Idina Menzel to perform this spectacular (winning!) song. (Honestly, what was the Academy thinking? She didn't go on until after 11. Surely a lot of little ones were sent to bed disappointed before she came on, boo hiss.)

We cheered! We danced! We even cried a little! AND THEN she performed it with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, and, well, this is just the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Be inspired! Watch the movie, even. It’s good. And then write your (new) poem based on the idea of letting go, not holding back, just being yourself and no one else. Enjoy!

  1. I take it you don't buy the line being peddled by some granny out there that Frozen is gay propaganda. Oy. ~

  2. I had a heck of a time getting a video to upload. I've only ever done You tube before and I ended up having to embed my Facebook post. I hope it works - I suffered for that clip ha ha. Winter here just won't quit this year. We're still getting snow!!

My daughter is looking forward to Frozen coming out on DVD this week. We missed it when it cam out - really great lyrics n the Song though.

@ Grapes - I hadn't heard about gay propaganda - I'm not sure what that means? Is there lots of guys eating popsicles and wearing toques?

  3. Isn't it? Love!

Grapes, I hadn't seen that! Though certainly this could be seen as a coming-out song, and I've heard lots of people talking about that. Because of course what is coming out, other than embracing yourself exactly as you are? Love it.

  5. Had not seen the video and now, thank you very much, I will wear a smile on my face, walk with a spring in my step all day long!

Living in Pacific Time Zone does have its advantages! 😀

  6. not to mention John Travolta bollocksing up her name at the Oscars, though obviously she has had the last laugh many times over.

  7. Lots of spoofs of show and song exist--but its really a great song and film which--though populated with royalty--is an every-child song about obedience, letting go, finding truth under appearance. And it's fun. I'll be back.

  8. I watch Jimmy Fallon often but hadn't seen this.

It would have been SO MUCH BETTER if they had done this version at the Oscars, with Idina surrounded by cool, supportive people. Thanks, Marian! Amy

  9. Marion, I too had to let it go also. We are having guest tonight, twelve of us to play Texas 42 (a domino game) and to eat first. I am Mrs. Jim's helper, have been since her foot surgery January 2.

But I JUST HAD TO WRITE Pi Poems today for NATIONAL PI DAY (3,14 - March 14th)

I did link to this page and your idea. Note: I am not a Jimmy Fallon person, I missed it live. Thanks for posting it here.

  13. I really enjoyed this song and video, Marian...the sentiment it promotes is one of such self-acceptance and gratitude...in my opinion.

I did end up with a poem but I can't post it on my blog as it's going to be the piece I'll present for a writing/dance workshop that I'm taking part in.

Any way all of this to say that I'm grateful...thank you, Marian and happy weekend to all! :)

  15. Marian,
This is not the poem I thought I'd write to this powerful song and fun performance. I may come back when the Inspiring poetry about Freedom is on top of my agenda again. Thanks for the day I spent repeating and repeating this song!
