The Tuesday Platform

Welcome to the Imaginary Garden...

The Frog Prince ~ Maria Hohneck
Fair Use

The Frog Prince

Frau Doktor,
Mama Brundig,
take out your contacts,
remove your wig.
I write for you.
I entertain.
But frogs come out
of the sky like rain.

Frogs arrive
With an ugly fury.
You are my judge.
You are my jury.

My guilts are what
we catalogue.
I’ll take a knife
and chop up frog...

Anne Sexton
(The tale continues HERE)

Greetings to all poets and friends! The month of October seems to invite a touch of the macabre - I could not resist sharing this snippet of Sexton's froggy tale.  It is poet's choice in the garden today, with the emphasis on sharing and caring. So please link up and take a while to enjoy the work of fellow poets.

  1. Loved reading Sexton' "The Frog Prince." Thank you, Kerry, I will read it again, at least. Poor lady, I think she wrote it and wished she could escape her mixed up life like her heroine. I think we do that at least to a small extent sometimes. If only it worked.

  4. I do love a good fairy tale! October is such a fun month--and here in southern La it finally feels like autumn. I hope you enjoy the short prose I've linked up! Look forward to reading/commenting.

  5. I gave up writing today, searched my past for "care", came up with this oldie from 2009. I've always (??) wondered about King David. Guess his golden years settled him down.

  11. Sexton is one of my favorites. I believe her sordid life and her inner demons allowed for some really original work.

My poem came from a dream. It's a little macabre...more so just bizarre.

On my way to read now. =)
