I love the verses Kim ~ For me this is about accepting and looking at yourself in the mirror ~ Will try my best to write to this as its our long weekend here ~ July 1 is our Canada Day, smiles ~ Happy weekend everyone ~
What a lovely poem, Kim. It's new to me, though I know Walcott's earlier plays. I wonder who would have more to say, me now or me in one of my earlier lives? One would surely say "What were you thinking?!" I may find a dialogue poem in there in a few days. Today is my 62nd birthday and I am feeling high on life and friends. Sorry not to be posting today.
Oh, how timely!! In 3-D world my writing workshop asks for a 500 word love letter to ourselves...maybe this will help me move in this daunting direction. Excellent challenge, Kim, thank you!
I found this a most difficult prompt and some of the earlier ones as difficult seemed to relate... yet some new insight on how the sense of self when strong aids in our creativity if we can take as gospel the results of new science findings in moving brain scans- hey, poets already have explored this as the author's poem shows... Well, this is a little long but just maybe there is something new here- one not tainted by mere natural experience or tragic loss.
I'm back sooner than I thought. It is me, though very rough and it doesn't live up to the splendid model. I have no wisdom to pass on. It's the first time I really looked into that mirror, but I liked it and will look again.
This is a beautiful poem in and of itself, Kim. Wow! Great share.
ReplyDeleteoh, that is just lovely, Kim.
ReplyDeleteWhat a challenging but fascinating prompt, Kim. I shall try to do it justice.
ReplyDeleteK
... some days it's hard to see the real me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem..hmmm...now where can I go with it?
ReplyDeleteThis is really a beautiful piece Kim!
ReplyDeleteColor me stupid, but I don't understand what the challenge is.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...for me it is about meeting and accepting myself, as is.
ReplyDeleteAfter living...we sometimes don't recognize ourselves.
.. for me, it's sifting through the bad to get to the good. And embracing all of it.

ReplyDeleteRead the poem. Consider what it means to you. React in writing, poetically.
I think I sidestepped the true intent of the prompt but, having said that, it was a prompt for me to write something. Even if tangential. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Susan. I hope it is a glorious day wherever you are!
ReplyDeletePerhaps listening to several Eno albums back to back has put me in a bit of a warped zone - and so, my attempt at the challenge. Happy Sunday ~ M
ReplyDeleteAn inspiring poem! Strangely, this challenge became a poetic answer for a lady perhaps needing some fresh wine for the soul.
