Greetings Garden Dwellers!
Welcome back to Out of Standard, where I will set before you a challenge to defy the conventions of a particular theme. I will call upon you to write out of the standard and find new places in the everyday, but caution: there will be a twist. Let’s move onward to March’s challenge...
ST. PAT SOMETHING
According to the good folk at Wikipedia, the Feast Day of Saint Patrick was celebrated by the Irish as early as the ninth and tenth centuries, in honor of the Patron Saint of Ireland...Pat Something.
In 2014, St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in dozens of countries including South Korea, Argentina, Russia, Switzerland, Malaysia, Montserrat (yes, Montserrat!!!), and the International Space Station. People who hold no affiliation to the country or religion that has canonized Mr. Patrick took part in the festivities, proving once and for all that a holiday is what you make of it.
THE CHALLENGE
Invoke your reign over the calendar and write a poem which takes place on a holiday you invented. It can be to canonized your personal hero who does not have a holiday already, or celebrate an event that you feel deserves it’s own time in the limelight. Or just make up some crazy nonsense, like the Day of the Seventh Head of Matilda. You know, shake hands with your imagination.
I have one rule and one rule only for this prompt--your poem must take place on your holiday, not simply be about your holiday. This means you will need to invoke a narrator and some sort of setting!

KEEP IN MIND
Like every challenge, your poem must by newly written for this challenge and not one which you have previously written which conveniently fits the theme.
So go now, my muddy buddies, and bring us back something shiny and new.
This is so outside of the box, Izzy. I love it!
ReplyDeleteFun,fun,fun ....

Wow! If only!!
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun write, Izzy. I am not sure I met your expectations, I really didn't meet mine either. But I enjoyed using some of my tight schedule for this one.
