Richard Schear is a retired school teacher, now selling Registered Education Savings Plans. About 400 of his former students have "friended" him on Facebook, which could mean he taught them well. Or not. He raised four children and four stepchildren. Later in life, he married Kay Davies, who introduced him to scenic photography, now a hobby they share. Richard also referees high school basketball and football.

I asked Richard to share his favourite poem with us, and he selected Invictus, by William Ernest Henley.
Invictus
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

My internet access is very wobbly today for some unknown reason, but I think I have managed to post my poems and link up during the gaps in the gaps transmission.

In China, they built a big honking wall,
To keep the haiku in. That's all.
But in recent years, the haiku got out,
Clearly it's part of a communist plot.

Fireblossom, February has only 29 days and we now have six haiku days behind us. I toss in other writings as a life preserver to help you float through a haiku sea :)
