Just One Word: Etiquette

etiquette
noun
et·i·quette | \ ˈe-ti-kət

Definition: the conduct or procedure required by good breeding or prescribed by authority to be observed in social or official life

From Merriam-Webster: One definition of the French word étiquette is "ticket" or "label attached to something for identification." In 16th-century Spain, the French word was borrowed (and altered to "etiqueta") to refer to the written protocols describing orders of precedence and behavior demanded of those who appeared in court. Eventually, "etiqueta" came to be applied to the court ceremonies themselves as well as the documents which outlined the requirements for them. Interestingly, this then led to French speakers of the time attributing the second sense of "proper behavior" to their "étiquette," and in the middle of the 18th century English speakers finally adopted both the word and the second meaning from the French.

Pollyanna Penelope Posey, the Queen of Poetry, here to warn you that Fireblossom's "poem" is nothing but lewd, tasteless nonsense. I suggest reading the bible instead. --PPP

Traveled through severe storms on our return home to arrive just after a small tornado passed through our neighborhood. Thankfully the damage wasn't severe.

I had a busy day - I know - no excuse - but I have a LOT of catching up to do in commenting this past week - I've been posting and not visiting - I will get on that tomorrow morning. I am still officially moving in - the boxes are almost unpacked. Today we put up most of the paintings and our garage looks a little less like a storage unit... Thanks for this fun prompt!
