Let's Go to the Movies!
The Hunger Games
I have come up with what I hope will be a fun Mary's Mixed Bag challenge for everyone. If you are like me, you enjoy movies. Some that I have seen in the past few months were Bully; The Hunger Games; The Artist; Puss 'N Boots; The Descendants; Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol; Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close; Iron Lady; The Adventures of Tin Tin; Hugo. It would be fun to see your list. Maybe you can list some of them in 'comments.'
For this challenge there are three choices:
(1) Think of a movie you have seen recently. Write a poem that arises from that movie - from its title, theme, subject matter, a character, setting, etc. Here is a site where you can find a list of 2011 movies and another for 2012 movies.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
(2) Write a poem that arises from subject matter, title, theme, character, setting, etc. of an older or classic movie. This is a list of movies that have grossed most money at the box office if you need inspiration.
Gone With the Wind
If you still need more inspiration, here is a "wordle" poem I wrote entitled Casablanca about the movie of the same name. In this poem, I put myself inside the movie. This would be another way you could approach the challenge.
When you write and link a new poem using Mr. Linky below, please leave a comment as well. And perhaps, as part of your comment, you could list some of the movies you have seen in the past few months. It would be interesting to see your list. Oh, and of course, don't forget to visit the links of others who post as well. Have fun! I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I posted my poem. I look forward to reading yours!
Great challenge, Mary! I got my popcorn and have taken a seat in the center of the middle row!
Great prompt, Mary. I am not much of movie buff these days, so I went with an old classic.
I love movies, I might have to go pop some corn to stir up some inspiration while I settle on which movie ;D
Mary I love this prompt~
A lovely idea for a challenge, Mary.
Alice Neel (the one I wrote about today), Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox,Rivers and Tides(Andy Goldsworthy Working With Time, Life in a Day, A Shine of Rainbows, Agora, DMT: The Spirit Molecule, Microcosmos and Rango!!
Yeah, I've probably watched these all in the last three months or so...I just picked the ones from my netflix list that I loved the most!! These were all SO worthy!
Thank you, Mary! This was fun!
I'm so excited about the writing that has taken place so far and am so glad that so many seem to be enjoying the subject! Keep 'em coming!
How fun! I will be a bit late, I'm afraid, but I am going to try and do this! I don't go to the movies very often, (I'm a Netflix girl) but the movies that come to mind that I have last seen at the theatre are: War Horse, Hunger Games, The Artist (amazing!) and... the first Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr.
Wow, I went with an older movie, but I loved the theme, so I had to go with it. And I had to go with the A-Z challenge and write R for romance...yikes! Great fun~ Thank you Mary :D
I am SUCH a Movie Girl. It is a perfect passtime for those who live vicariously. I love so many movies it would take a blog post to cover the topic satisfactorily. So here is the one I watched this afternoon.Good prompt, Mary - fun!
I love this prompt, but still find myself unable to come up with anything due to lingering illness. Soon, I hope.
Fun reading what you all wrote about for this neat prompt. I am not much of a movie-going person--never have been really but have somehow seen my share over the years. I KNOW there are some I have really like but my mind is a blank when I try now to think of them! The ones I like best often tend to be ones that are not that big in the world of block busters.
I am late but my post is up ~
Thanks for the prompt Mary ~
Love the prompt...I went with my sense of humor on this one.
Great Prompt Mary. Thank you.
I'm getting so tired. I'll read and comment tomorrow.
Thanks to all of you who have participated in this. I have enjoyed greatly what you have written.
It was a good jog down memory lane. Thanks for the prompt.
I think this definitely qualifies as fashionably late! I can't remember the last time I was in a movie theater (might have been Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but don't quote me on that.) I'm one of those people who tend to watch the same movies over and over and over. I drew my inspiration from the Star Wars saga, Yoda truly does have the heart of a poet!
