In browsing for a pithy quote about the art of poetry, I came across the following advice from children's poet, Charles Ghigna:
Poem-Making 101.
Poetry shows. Prose tells.
Choose precise, concrete words.
Remove prose from your poems.
Use images that evoke the senses.
Avoid the abstract, the verbose, the overstated.
Trust the poem to take you where it wants to go.
Follow it closely, recording its path with imagery.
I think the idea of trusting the poem, in the second to last line, is a big one for me, although I confess to being abstract, verbose and overstated, at times. (Oops)

I trusted this poem and went with it, but still hope to cut it in half sideways.
What wonderful advice.
When I "trust the poem" and ignore myself the result is much much more than it could have been with me alone.
I'm connected but is such a let down after yesterday's Seraphine.
Today I am sharing the reading of my anthology of four poems, Song of No Man's Land.
I warn ahead that the recording is about 7 minutes long and not for the faint of heart but I would be happy to know how the whole hangs together.

My poem is about "trusting the poem"...and how elusive our thoughts can be. I'm a day late but glad to participate :)
