Writing, reading, and commenting fatigue lingers from the April poem-fest.
So, straight to this month's Get Listed prompt.
I have winnowed the list from the (translated) poems of Pablo Neruda, specifically, from the bilingual edition Pablo Neruda - Selected Poems (Houghton Mifflin, 1970).
As a reminder, please write a new poem for this prompt using at least 3 of the list words (or reasonable variants), post it to your own site, and link to that specific poem (not just your blog) in Mr. Linky, below.
The List:
from "Poet's Obligation", page 429 (links to full poem at PoemHunter.com):
fragment, insistent, withdrawing, sea
from "They Come for the Islands (1493)", page 195 (links to full poem at Google Books):
clay, gnawed, empty, knife
from "I'm Explaining a Few Things", page 151 (PoemHunter.com again):
suburb, face, house, blood
The prompt will remain open so please frequently revisit your fellow writers - and it's good form to comment on their pens, if you would have them visit and read yours. Thanks for participating.

Neruda is an inspiration!
Thanks, Michael.
Ha, thanks, Michael, I had already written this poem this morning, so I adapted it to include your listed words - nice and easy! I did not attempt Neruda's style because I, too, have poetry fatigue, LOL. For those posting later today, I wont have computer access again till tomorrow morning, so will catch up with you then.
Great word choice, M. I hope to be able to do something with them tomorrow.
I was supposed to take a break, about two weeks... But you had to come and pull a Neruda on me. You are a terrible man, Michael. Terrible! ♥
Thank you for offering poems by Pablo Neruda, Michael.
Love Neruda. My internet has been out most of the afternoon until now, but I will get to work on something for this.
Hello everyone,
Love Pablo Neruda! Sharing my poem "Seashore." Hope you all like it :D
Thank you Michael for this lovely opportunity :D
Lots of love
Sanaa
Thank you, for the challenge, M!
I wrote history, not too creative.
Great challenge!
Hey M--I too have been thinking about something and used the words, and read the Neruda poems, but have to say that I kept more to my own poem. I may try to do another one tomorrow--agh. Pretty tired. Thanks.
So happy to hear MZ okay, and hope her and Hedge and anyone else out in OK stay well. k.
This is a Neruda week for me.. Yesterday I wrote a glosa based on one of Neruda's poem, and now you give these words. Actually They are almost a poem by themselves.. so for me it wrote itself..
Thanks M, I'm up late, which never happens...so here is my post after midnight. hope it hold up to the light of day.
M, I am so blind I read clay as claw. I used three other words though I believe! K.
Hi M ~~ This was a nice choice for me, I was glad to meet Mr. Neruda.
I chose your last set, Suburb, from "I'm Explaining a Few Things". I hurried on it as I wanted it posted last night.
Seemed to me after I posted and read his that Neruda and I were sort on the same wavelength. Guess you have to be with those four words.
..
Thanks. It's been a while since I've been able to write and be here in the Garden - I will be back later tonight to finish visiting the other poems.
Hard enough to use all the words (which, even though I didn't have to, I wanted to) without trying to ape Neruda as well! But a darkness crept in....
Hey Michael--to be honest I was working on my first poem before the prompt. I so enjoyed reading your Neruda poems--I'd read two before, but it was great to revisit them more closely, and they led to this next one. Hope it okay to submit a second. Thanks. I got to the Met tonight! (BTW.) I happen to have had to stay in the City this weekend--so saw the Native American show which was great, and hope to go again tomorrow, maybe to NHM too--Thanks. k.
This was quite a challenge. Thanks for the brain stretch
Michael, hello, just wanted to say how much I love this prompt and list. I've been working on something with the words but haven't been able to finish it yet. I will, eventually, and will share. Thank you. xo
thanks to all who joined, and those who've read ~ M
This may be the most un-Neruda poem using Neruda's words, but at least I finally wrote something!
I will be back to read... I have two other posts I need to finish up reading and commenting on. I haven't forgotten... just swamped with a "To Do" list that is quite long... moving my son to Brooklyn and graduating... :)
