Time (The Revelator)

From Gillian Welch’s website: "Gill and Dave met at Berklee College of Music; Gillian was studying songwriting, while Dave studied guitar; they met at an audition for a country band. Together, they moved to Nashville, TN where most of their work together has been produced. Since then they have influenced and inspired new generations of country and folk singers, songwriters and players. They have earned the slavish admiration of many of the most lauded and loved voices of the Americana milieu now living – and some who have since deceased (rest their souls). They’ve had their songs recorded by the likes of Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and Solomon Burke. Gill and Dave’s body of work is deeply rooted in the world it has sought to portray in song: the American South."

I actually sat down with Spotify and listened to what was available :-) Great Music Gillian.. I couldn't avoid getting caught with Tennessee.. and this took me back to when I lived for a while in Eastern Tennessee.. and that pulled me back in history...

Makes me think of playing in trios back in the '70s with fellow songwriters -- only one of us was any good, and she's the only one still at it -- the sense of collaboration and eternal refinement going over that same old dusky dusty heartland. My contribution is more about the hero of a drinking song, its drinking, truth-addled son ...

Hi Marian, I always love to learn about the musicians you feature - many of them new to me. It's been a difficult week for me and I am not thinking very poetically but hopefully the weekend will provide some relief.

Gillian Welch is one of the artists performing in the live concert film Down from the Mountain, which featured artists from the Coen Brothers movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? I was lucky enough to see Gillian Welch & David Rawlings live once in Boston. The old-timey thing is a big trend now, but they are, though modern, the real deal.

Hey Marian! Very cool! Am cold here though! I like the cold but endless negative ten gets a bit much! (though to be fair got up to positive ten today in country!) k.
