The Streets (of Brooklyn)

Congrats on Day 14 if you are participating in National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo).  Here is a prompt I hope inspires you today.

The streets of Brooklyn are so interesting to me.  I was recently there for my son's wedding and we had a couple of days to walk around... these are a few photos I snapped and I hope you find one that inspires a poem.

Where is your favorite town or city to take a stroll in?  If you like, please use that as a springboard instead of these photos.  I'd prefer it NOT be nature or the beach.  If you live in the country or rural area, try and recall a visit to a city or town as a child, or have visited as an adult.  Give it your best shot, please write a new poem, post to Mr. Linky below, and visit your fellow poets.

Thanks for the inspiration to flash back!

Hi Margaret, I wrote a poem that arose from a contemplation of your photos, especially those which show the untidy corners, crumbling edges and trashy puddles, but my poem strayed from the exact intention you may have had. I hope it's still alright to link it up (in the spirit of April)!

Perfectly fine, Kerry. I'm not a stickler for rigid rules. Inspiration is what I offer - if it's close or obviously triggered by my prompt, I'm OK. ESPECIALLY with a poem a day for a month!

I like the prompt, thank you, Margaret There are a lot of places I've been that I would tour again. I settled on a wee part of London. I hope to have pictures later this afternoon.

My piece is perhaps a bit long for a month of poems every day – but it's easy reading, so I hope no-one finds it an imposition. Hard to find the right picture to illustrate it, though. Maybe I need a series. (Yes, I know that was not a requirement, but it would be nice.)

Fabulous photos. I love the movie "Brooklyn", and as a teen adored the book "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." Cool prompt.

Margaret, did I read that right, your son got married? Wow! Big news!!!!
I swear your kids are all children and pre-teens so I'm not sure how this happened but congratulations!

Great pictures. I have never been to NYC but will try to write to one of these. I didn't get anything written yesterday, and so have fallen off the Nano Neener wagon, so to speak. Perhaps I can clamber back on.

Thank you, Margaret for those great pictures and (for me) a challenging prompt. I was surprised to find I had difficulty leaving out nature :-)

I went back to 21 in Kansas City. I write a poem inspired by your pigeon photo, but it didn't fit this prompt.

Marian... you got me thinking - I think Will was around 16 when I first started writing poetry - has it really been 10 years!

Thanks for playing everyone - I was fascinated with your descriptions of your urban walks... I am glad I thought of asking for outside places other than Brooklyn!
