I Felt A Funeral In My Brain
by Emily Dickinson
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading - till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through -
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum -
Kept beating - beating - till I thought
My mind was going numb -
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space - began to toll,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race,
Wrecked, solitary, here -
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then -
Greetings poets, wayfarers and friends. Welcome to the Tuesday Platform,
the weekly open stage for sharing poems
in the Imaginary Garden. Please link up a poem, old or new, and spend
some time this week visiting the offerings of our fellow writers.
If you are participating in the poem-a-day challenge and looking for inspiration then here is an optional prompt for you. Write a horror poem that makes one taste the dark in broad daylight. Follow this link to a list on Goodreads for further inspiration.
Choose your own form or write in free verse, if preferred. I look forward to reading what you guys come up with on Day 23 of the month-long adventure. Happy Poeming!🥀

I think I did an acceptable job of it. I liked it anyway.
Be Careful What You Wish For
@Real Cie; I think you forgot to link your poem. Thank you so much, so glad you liked it!❤️
I enjoyed my write this morning. Now I'm back to bed. Still catching up too with yesterday's reading. I did use the word "dark" but my write isn't scary at all.

@Jim; Thank you so much for participating! Happy Tuesday ❤️
Thank you for hosting, Sanaa! I haven't been able to write for your challenge but I think my poem is a kind of horror story too along with being a political statement. Haha.
I am late for a meeting; so, I will be back to read later on in the evening! :-)

Sorry, dear toads, I couldn't be playful with this one. My mind went straight to the serious stuff.

I am running late today, but could not miss the day of Shakespeare's birth/death, so I dashed off a ghostly sonnet!
Sanaa- Thanks for an intriguing prompt. Whew- another one done!
I love the poem Sanaa but ghosts were far from thoughts - more like spirits - so simply linked
