One must make a distinction however: when dragged into prominence by half poets, the result is not poetry, nor till the autocrats among us can be “literalists of the imagination”—above insolence and triviality and can present for inspection, imaginary gardens with real toads in them, shall we have it.

Poems in April: Whozits and Whatzits Galore!

Happy Earth Day, Toads!

I know that my croaking has been scarce around the Garden of late, and I apologize. Work has been terribly busy, and then my daughter and I went to Portland, OR for a mother/daughter trip to visit her soon-to-be college.

That brings me to the prompt:
Exploring the city of Portland, we came across a unique store that was filled to the brim with knick-knacks, tschotskes, geegaws, curios, and bibelots. We spent the longest time just gawking and taking pictures.

My challenge for you, Toads, is to choose a photo that inspires, attracts, or disturbs you and write a poem. Any length, any form-just let your imagination wander.

There were many more photos, and I had a tough time narrowing them down to these 10, but hopefully, something here will tickle your muse!

Lolamouse, what a fun challenge! That store looks like a place I would love. The whole time I was writing my piece Hotel California was playing in my head. I don't know why..guess your photos and the song co-inspired the weird route I took.

Dear LM, what an adorable prompt!Love the pictures. I'm still giggling about the mouse doing push-ups on your blog's side bar.
I'm missing so many perfect IG prompts this month. I hope we will be allowed to write to those when the April rush has died down.

It was a really fun store! I couldn't decide which photos to post, as there were so many to choose from!

Jo-hanna, if you want to write to any of the photos any time, feel free! I just got out of a rush time, and it feels good to be back!

Thank you Lolamouse! Fun photos-I can't wait to write, but first have to go shop with daughter for Prom shoes. Spring break is making my Wheel of Fortune spin faster-lol!

Wow! What amazing pics, LM. I was once in Portland but it's many many years ago now--a very unique personality to that city, and that shop is full of it. I will see if I can't work something up for tomorrow.

I want the yellow cabinet!
And the locks and other gizmos in the first photo are fascinating.
Think, think, think, but I have an appointment, so I'll think about this and catch you later, Ms Mouse.

Thanks for all the great pictures! I'm sorry I have been crap at writing and visiting. This is getting to be a VERY long month. I promise I'll be more considerate garden dweller in May!

Toads and Friends,
Didn't get home from work today until 9:00 pm. I'll finish visiting the links tomorrow, I promise!

I stopped by too late to join in with this, Lolamouse, but your pictures infiltrated my dreams, I think. Look here if you'd like to see how!

Believe it or not, I had the dream about this before your challenge, LM, and the first few lines of the poem--but couldn't have finished it without the pic, I don't think--thanks! Lots of chores today but I will be back this afternoon to visit.
